Calling all clarinettists!!
Sectional Chalet

Discussed this with Valerie on Monday, and I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be having the sectional chalet on the 21 - 23 November 2008, at ALOHA CHANGI.

Yeah, got that right, at Aloha Changi. I know, it lacks facilities and amenities like the swimming pool, the arcade, and basketball courts, stuff like that, but think again. Do we actually need those? Who would actually go swimming anyway (except for me, bummer). Going to the arcade is a waste of money, really. I know, it’s fun, but you’re paying for mindless thrill.

So we don’t need those things after all. Aloha Changi can be fun, if you’re an experienced traveller, like Eileen and Valerie, and you can take buses, cycle or walk to places. Besides, Aloha Changi costs about half of what Aloha Loyang costs.
I’m not sure when Valerie will book, so yeah, tentatively, it’s still during the 21 - 23 November slot. And we’ll also get to book the chalet at a discounted price, because Valerie’s mother is a civil servant. Please try to not having any other commitments during that period, thanks!

However, it’s not finalized yet. Confirmations will be made at a later date! This is just to give you guys a brief outline of what’s going to happen. Spread the word around! Thanks!

I'm quite peeved that the bio paper is on the last day. -.-

There was the parade in the morning.
no march in, no march pass and the flag stuck halfway.
wow.
and the band was suppose to play the national anthem but in the end they didn't. lol and i was looking forward to hear them play. T.T
i miss being in the band and performing with them. /:
After the parade was the cheering competition which rained halfway and which 3l1 and 201 won i think?
lol couldn't hear properly with all the screaming and yelling.
i feel quite sorry for those classes that haven't cheered yet when it started to rain.
It was fine a few minutes ago, hot even, until a gust of wind blew and everything went haywire.
In the end, they continued cheering in the rain.
bravo. lol.

anyway, yesterday was another raining episode too,which made the hockey pitch wet.
and since the cheering com was held there, it meant that we had to sit on the wet surface.
that,coupled with the hot sun, you get quite a lot of unhappy faces.
lol. can't be helped.
seriously, everybody who sat there got wet.
(i didn't though. i prefer cramped legs to wet butt. LOL) xD
oh and many thanks to YUNYING (haha) who let me sit on her feet. ((:

Went to my brother's carnival, thus completing the sian day.
lol. The carnival was too big and since i couldn't find my brother(who had the coupons), i gave up and went home.
hah. interesting story.
Didn't feel like doing homework so tada here i am.
i'm feeling guilty for not mugging since prelims are like just next week...
speaking of which, i forgot to get my lit essay back from mr ng. -.- argh.
argh.argh. bad day.

we missed school for three days


LOL it is strange that among all the bpians,ii seem to be the only one who wanted so badly to return to lessons.haha weiqi said that she didnt even think of sch at all throughout the course. =.= ii miss loads of lessons! and exams are just around the corner!!!!!! =X

well the course at IMCB A*STAR is regarding "Determining a Protein Sructure"it is not purely about biology, but involve a bit of chemistry too.haha my post shuld be about the three days since Xinyi and Huijin are curious about what it is like..

Day 1 ( 23rd April 2008)


Reporting time at IMCB: 8.30am
Time which Bpians meet at CCK MRT: 7am
Time we reached Biopolis (protease block): 8am

transport not provided..we have to change train at jurong interchange, then take to buona vista, then walk/take biopolis bus for the continuous 3 days.and taking the Mrt train in the morning is a total torture.you can observe typical singaporeans and the crowdedness.perhaps ii m not used to it since ii live in CCK and my pri and sec sch are Concord & BPGHS respectively =X

- we were given the biopolis pass card. (being warned we have to pay $30 if misplaced or lost)

- briefing(by Prof Maria) on the safety procedure, importance of purification of proteins

the person in charge (Ron) is 29 years old.. but many thought he was above 4o. haha he said he had looked older due to dealing with students like us hahhaha. =P

anyway the briefing sounded so serious and scary.it is as though if you are not careful enough, the liquid nitrogen will break your finger?!

- then we met James from ACJC who introduced himself to us (wq hq me). the first person we know. hahaha=)

- wet lab. we were being divided into groups and that Ron insisted that we cannot be in same grp as our own schoolmates so we were being split up into groups again

- our team's instructor is Alvin whose zodiac is monkey making him 12 years older than us. he looks like over 30 years and a playboy (Candice from DHS said) hhaaha and ii agree (:okok enough of craps.

err we are supposed to understand how to calculate the concentration and know about proteins' stuff.. but Alvin made it sounded so complicated -.= haha

- preparation of protein samples to crystalise and some crystallisation bufferscrystallisation of lysozyme and myoglobin following the protocols..in simple terms we are also supposed to make crystals..but this kinda crystals are different from the bp crystal growing workshop we attend in lower sec.

the crystals cannot be seen with naked eyes.. can only be observed through microscope.
we had to deal with instruments like centrifudge and micropipettethen ii felt so dumb.
ii m the only one in my team that had never used such equipments before ah!
and it s like.. ii everything unsure and dunno.. so confused and blur.
at that point of time, ii miss my class and a bit regret coming..
then in my team, the first person ii know is friendly huiwen frm JJC. (:
ok she is in JC 2 but her size is similar to mine (:
then using my hands unable to control the equipment strangely.kept shaking leh. and the RJC ppl and Alvin suspected that ii took drugs.. O.O

- Lunch at Matrix block which is opposite to our protease block with huiqing- continue with the crystal stuff..
- left the biopolis at 5.45pm
- reach home at around 6.40pmDay 2 (24 April 2008)

we looked at our crystals of the previous daythen Alvin seemed to make a mistake la.. then our group's crystals are rather small but nvm (:
and we had 2 lecture talks on crystals and err protein structure? by Professor Albert.
- Symmetry and Space groups
- X-rays and Cryocrystallography

LOL ii didnt really pay attention as ii was too tired. but quite chim also la the talks.then after lunch Prof Albert demo on how to fish or mount the crystals.after that we went computer lab. 2 ppl share a comp and ii finally get to interact with huiqing yayy (:
ohh ya.. and on the 2nd day we had lunch at Holland Village.
the JC ppl ask us along.. and when we couldnt squeeze up the bus, kind James led us (3 bp girls) and we took a cab. surprisingly we reached eariler than the rest and the taxi fare cost only $3 (:then the rest went subway for lunch.

hq wq and Grace (VJC) prefer rice, while huiwen wanted katong laksa.ii was not hungry and wanted something light.. but around that area.. such food cannot be found.then Grace volunteered and suggested to pei wo walk around to see if there were other choices.she is so nice!! omg.. knowing Jc friends are like.. having big brothers and sisters (:ii felt rather touched.. and glad.normally since young ii was supposed to do such things to younger sister/cousinsand nobody has treated me so nice before.. thanks(: ii finally got the feeling of being doted on by elder siblings. hahaha=)


Day 3 (25 April 2008)

notice that our reporting time are getting later.. ii even planned to go back school for the first period ar.. LOL and that s insane. but ii really miss bp friends strangely.dunno why ii miss their craps and school lessons. weird.
Day 3 is the last day.. and mainly about proteins model building using comp.

- Structure refinement.the comp stuff a bit confusing.. and ii always anyhow press.. click here click there. coz Prof said just play around with the models.. of course he dunn mean "play" exactly.and ii moved the 3D protein structure in different angles.. Until our comp finally hanged. -.=sadded. then later huiqing's turn. haha. Nvm redo lo we got nth to do anyway.

hahawe had 2hr lunch break! went Matrix canteen with Estelle(ACJ), huiwen huiqing weiqi..so interesting lol. both hw and estelle same age (JC2) and estelle said their age look similar as mine. haaha hw kept asking me to "protect" her. Coz estelle wuld suddenly go "huggies" and hugged us. 0.0 hahahaand when we were done with trying out the MOSFLM CCp4i and other dunno wadd program..we were told to take a break.

wooahh we went in search for our names in both french and japanese language(: funn.. and abit insane. but who cares?!then out of boredom we visited M1 cls blog.
